DOJ Firewalls, Taint Teams Don't Protect 4th, 6th Amendment Rights

By Alan Dershowitz
Many TV pundits are telling viewers not to worry about the government’s intrusion into possible lawyer/client privileged communications between President Trump and his lawyer, since prosecutors won’t get to see or use any privileged material. This is because prosecutors and FBI agents create firewalls and taint teams to preclude privileged information from being used against the client in a criminal case. But that analysis completely misses the point and ignores the distinction between the Fifth Amendment on the one hand, and the Fourth and Sixth Amendments on the other.

Who Won the Reformation?

- The Western world has not known quite what to do with the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. The powerful Protestant establishments that would have once celebrated the quincentenary wholeheartedly are mostly weak or impotent or gone, and while the disreputable sort of Calvinist and the disreputable sort of Catholic still brawl online, in official ecclesiastical circles the rule is to speak of the Reformation in regretful tones, like children following a bad divorce who hope that now that many years have passed the divided family can come together for a holiday, or at least an ecumenical communion service.Share

Deshaun Watson donates first paycheck to cafeteria employees
Houston Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson got a big payday with his first NFL game check, but then gave it to three female NRG Stadium food service workers who lost everything during Hurricane Harvey. "I wanted to give my first game check to y'all to help y'all out, some type of way," Watson told the workers. Watson, who has a base salary of $465,000, donated a check for $27,353. Watson has been on the receiving end of a similar kindness in the past, as he and his family were once recipients of a house built by Habitat for Humanity.
